Adult & Youth Synchronized Skating Team Compete in Burnaby

On January 21st the Juan de Fuca Skating Club had two teams represent the Island at the Mountain Regional Synchronized Skating Championships. They proved the Island has some top competitors by bringing home gold and silver placements in their events. The adult team earned a silver finish in the Adult III category, while the youth team took home a gold in the Star 3 category. These were the only teams from the island to compete in this cross Provincial event. Teams from across British Columbia and Alberta showed up and captured the audience with their intricate choreography and fun music. The Twilights Synchro Team competed in the Synchro Star 3 event.

This category consists of 6 - 12 skaters that must have successfully completed STAR 1 skills. There is no age requirement. However, this team of seven skaters range in ages from 10 to 12 years old.

The Ice Vizion Synchro Team competed in the Adult III event. This category consists

of 8-20 skaters and they must have reached the age of 18 before July 1st preceding competition.

Deanna Young, coach to both teams couldn't be prouder. The dedication they showed over the last few months learning their skills and performances really showed this past weekend. In January for first time ever synchronized skating was part of the National Skating Championships. Canadians were able to watch and be swept away by these top teams. Skate Canada is really promoting this team sport and we are hoping to grow our Victoria teams. Synchro is now being added to more events throughout the year which gives these teams a wonderful opportunity to showcase this sport.

Both of our teams are always looking for new skaters to join our fun and rewarding synchro program. Skaters do not have to be members of the JDF Skating Club to join the teams. They hold practices weekly at the Juan de Fuca Arena in the Westshore.
